Local Government Minister Mr. Daniel Botwei has said that he is not aware of the violence that characterized the confirmation of the MMDCEs’ across the country.  Some of these violent actions were captured in various media platforms in October last year. He denied knowledge of any such unfortunate events when he took his turn in the question and answer session in parliament on Wednesday.

MP for Atebubu Amanteng Sanja Nanja had asked a question about measures the Local Government Ministry has put in place to forestall future occurrences.

Mr. Daniel Botwei insisted on his answer when Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa and MP for Afadzato South Angela Alorwu-Tay cited some examples of violence that occurred during the confirmation period in some parts of the country.

MP for North Tongu Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa  intervened by chronicling headlines on violent incidents to the house saying “I’m really surprised that the minster says that during confirmation there were no violence reports. The Minister maintains, “I am not aware. Some people cold report on something and this is not the first time things have been reported that came out not to be true… I am saying that during the confirmation if somebody does not find entry into a hall, I am unable to call that violence.”

Now that the minister is aware, what steps would he take to prevent such from happening in the next confirmation? The minister explained that there was no official report informing him of violence during the confirmation.

“There was no violence and so I see no need to take steps to address something that has not happened.” Dan Botwei said.
